Gravity would work differently. We would still be stuck to the earth but the water would move. Oceans would split then the water would shift toward the poles. Sea life would start to die because the need oxygen and that is found within the plants that give it off. The oxygen would slowly move toward the poles. The land masses would be connected by land. For example America would connect to Europe for the first time in history. If the Earth just came to a halt everything on the earth would be moving at 1,600 km/h and the survivors would be left in ruins. Trees and plant life would start to diminish in numbers. Our seasons would become excruciatingly long- just over a year each to be close to exact. The earth would receive a half year of day time and a half year of night time. The Earth right now completes a full rotation every 24 hours or one day. Because of this the Earth has a slight bulge around the equator. Its rotation coming to a halt means that the pressure is no longer on the equator, causing it to become more spherical. Before the water moves the Earth becomes spherical and causes major flooding around the equator. The Earths tilt is effected by the rotation, so if the Earth stopped spinning the it would start to stand straight up. After this there would no longer be seasons.
